Most importantly, be honest about your feelings and how the relationship isn’t working for you. If you make it seem like it is his fault, it will only make it that much harder. Be sure he understands that he did nothing wrong, otherwise he will try to fix it. He needs to understand that it is about you and your feelings. Let him know that you enjoyed the time you had together, and it’s not really a bad thing.
